Pregnancy Blog Week 19 – Vernix Caseosa
Vernix caseosa.
This week’s blog will be typed in jibberish. Just kidding…So what are those words up there besides jibberish? They’re the white coating you see on newborn babies that is used to protect their skin from being in a wet space for weeks and weeks and months. AND…That is what precious babe is developing this week! I learned a lot of useless *ful, I mean useful* lingo while pregnant. A lot of the vocabulary, I start to say and then mumble or maybe throw in some Spanish and act like I know what I am talking about. I know you do it, too. Kinda like “Oh, yeah my baby is developing their vernix casa de tortilla this week! Exciting stuff happening in mi belly! Hey! Any banos around here?”
Something exciting that will be happening soon: Your ultrasound!!! Aka, your Level II Ultrasound or Fetal Anatomy Survey. This takes place anywhere from 18-22 weeks. A lot of people (pregnant women) hear this and think one thing: gender reveal cakes. But this ultrasound actually has more purpose than that, and it is to make sure all the little limbs, organs, eyeballs, and every toe are developing correctly. They do take around an hour or more, but it is nothing short of amazing to see your baby dancing around in your belly. So lay back and enjoy.
What is your baby up to? Besides the white coating, they are working on their five senses and are anywhere around 6 inches long and 8.5 ounces!
Tip of the week: I probably should have mentioned this a long time ago, but schedule your doctor appointments first thing in the morning or at lunch if you can. Reason being: the schedule isn’t backed up and you don’t have to sit in the waiting room too terribly long!
Product of the week: CLICK HERE to view this week’s item. A great choice would be one that come with several extra accessories so you get the most bang for your buck. AND they don’t look traditional, just a super awesome purse with tons of pockets! Bring it to your appointment to safely store your sweet ultrasound pics and any pamphlets or info packets given to you!
